TITLE: Smoke-free Ride-sharing for Children
Whereas, second-hand and third-hand smoke exposures impose significant negative impact on pediatric health including respiratory infections, asthma exacerbations, ear infections, and sudden infant death syndrome; and
Whereas, although many states have legislation prohibiting smoking on public transportation (taxis, buses, trains, airplanes), no such policies exist for ridesharing services like Uber or Lyft; and
Whereas, the Academy’s 2015 policy statement, “Public Policy to Protect Children From Tobacco, Nicotine, and Tobacco Smoke,” recommends both legislative and educational interventions to promote smoke-free vehicles when children are present, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Academy support state and federal laws compelling ride-sharing services to institute strict non-smoking policies for drivers.

This should definitely pass. It is extremely important that we eliminate as many second/third hand smoke exposures as possible.

Agree with spirit. Is this an issue. I think our effort should be simply that children should not be exposed to second hand smoke (which we have) and that we do not need additional policy statements for every specific situation. Thank you.
